Chamber of Commerce and Industry East Brandenburg
Welcome to the internet presentation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry East Brandenburg (CCI).
Here you will find some general information regarding our activities and contact details.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry East Brandenburg is a public, self-administrative organisation. Among the 81 German Chambers of Commerce and Industry it is one of three chambers in the state of Brandenburg. It attends chiefly to companies in East Brandenburg.
All companies are required by law to join a CCI in Germany. The only exceptions are handicraft businesses, professions and farms. The CCI East Brandenburg speaks for more than 44.000 entrepreneurs in East Brandenburg including large companies, retailers and innkeepers as a principal representative of all commercial undertakings in the region. Therefore the CCI East Brandenburg has considerable political influence and represents the interests of its members in dealings with state, regional and local authorities. The CCI East Brandenburg as a member of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) as the central organisation is also able to act on behalf of its member companies in relation to the German Federal Government and the European Commission
Besides the representation of company interests the 3 CCIs in Brandenburg issue certificates of origin, carnets and set vocational training examinations. As a recent innovation, they maintain a register of companies who meet specific environmental standards ("eco sites"). They place experts under oath, provide advisory opinions for government departments, and are involved in the appointment of arbitrators and the registration of companies.
The CCIs are independent public corporations and are responsible for running their own affairs as business institutions and do not operate as public authorities. They not only perform public functions but assist their members directly as counsellors or mediators in business matters of local, regional and supra-regional importance. The CCIs do support and promote local businesses and help them to access international markets. It is also a source of information about regional economy, business locations, grants, training and more.
All CCIs have a democratic structure. Members choose their representatives for the Annual General Meeting. This "parliament of the business community" elects the president, the vice presidents and the managing director.
According to their capacity all companies pay subscriptions to the applicable CCI. Because of their obligation the CCIs represent all branches and companies equally regardless of size, whether it is the corner shop or a multinational corporation. All companies have one vote and equal rights. Their subscriptions keep the IHKs financially independent of vested interests and government influence.
Admittedly, not every company is in favour of the legal requirement for membership. But one very important point will often be ignored – the exceptional efficiency of the system of corporate self-government. In contrast to public authorities CCIs have a great deal of local voluntary business expertise available. Thus they can guarantee a wide range of high quality services for their members.
If you want to import or export products, establish commercial partnerships or invest in the region, the CCI East Brandenburg can get you in contact with suitable business partners and provide you with information and advice.
